What do you use as a bookmark? Do you have one you’re attached to or do you change them like windshield wipers? I thought I’d share my bookmark and, once you see it, you’ll understand why it’s a used bookmark.

Yes, I laminated an American Airlines plane ticket from 2000 with a Dharma Bums pricing sticker on it. If you look closely you’ll see it’s actually my wife’s ticket. We flew round trip from San Francisco to Philadelphia through O’Hare, leaving 1:10pm and sitting in seat 15E.
It’s my lucky bookmark I guess. I can trace it back to it’s ‘birth’, it has a history and I can think about all the books it’s been wedged in since.
So what do you use as a bookmark? Can you top my bookmark lunacy?
Hey there! I just stumbled on your blog (Love google) and decided to reply. I tend to use whatever I can get my hands on. Occansionally I’ll keep one for two or three books, but then they get lost (usually in the bed when my boyfriend is sleeping and it would be rude to wake him searching for my lost book mark)
I love yours!! What an awesome tale.
Stop by my LJ sometime, not all about books, but quite a bit.
Sharyla,
Thanks for stopping by and for commenting. I really appreciate it. The bookmark I use does have a nice tale. The flip side is that I’m rather compulsive about NOT losing it. In a half-sleeping panic I’ll sometimes slap our bed and toss the pillows searching for it.
And I think about it during rides on public transportation. Not all the time, but once in a while I’m fingering the pages, searching for where I’ve inserted it to make sure it hasn’t fallen on the floor.
I’ll drop by your LJ page and check it out. Thanks again and keep reading!
I just love your story of your book mark. How clever!
I use one that my grand-daughter gave to me. It has pretty beads that hang over the book attached to a thin wire and then more beads at the end. I love it because while I’m reading I can play with the beads like they are worry beads.
Thanks for visiting and commenting Bev. I’m not sure what possessed me to do it, but now I just can’t let it go.
You have one that is truly sentimental. My daughter is 3 1/2 now and I’m pretty sure that if she gave me some sort of bookmark I’d likely toss this one out pretty quick.
My bookmark(s) are not so esoteric nor do I have a very good story. But I probably get asked about them almost every time I’m out reading in public. They are the Levenger Book Bungee and they are great for paperbacks or hardbacks…they solve the problem of your book popping open and your bookmark falling out, and they look pretty good too. Love these things.
I usually use the bus ticket as bookmark
That was a thought-provoking post if ever I have seen one. I can’t say that I completely agree with you about the childrens story books though, could you clarify your thoughts on that?
Its great to see what people use as book marks, I have some from AbeBooks, also from BooksandCollectibles, plus 100′s of other ones, but I’m always looking for a book mark from tissues to post it notes, toilet paper, newspaper, paddle pop sticks (dry) money notes. But I have never had just one single bookmark I have a set of brass bookmarks from a collection I brought along with an embosser all in a leather case very neat indeed. Maybe if you don’t mind I will take some pictures for people to see if anyone is interested.
Well I try to used this book mark and I really happy it so good to see the details of this log really great.
