I found I was laid off (2009) when I tried to order a border on the Borders website and my discount wouldn't work. I left a message for H.R. (National) when I couldn't get into the benefits website to check on it. I get a voicemail telling me I had been laid off and to this day have NEVER received written notification from the company about the lay-off nor was I able to get unemployment since (do the math) working a range of hours from 0-39.5 averages out to an amount too low for me to collect anything. I did get food stamps. That helped. I now have insomnia, hate the company, have gotten fatter, read lots of free books from my library, miss my advance reader books, and won't take ONE step into a Borders store ever again. Unfortunately if it doesn't want to pay for full-time level of insurance, part-timers can just be done away with, and the number of full-time people can be controlled that way. Thoughts? It is cheaper to run with part time people except for management. They don't have to pay them as much plus now you see they don't have to pay for their benefits. So the Obama administraytion played right into their greedy little hands. Just another clear cut way for Borders to screw all their employees over. Insurance is the unfortunate core of my being and it's what kept me at Borders for as long as I did. I was FT, so although premiums were high, insurance was good. I am sorry. Good luck to you.
